Integration ideas are from the Ministry of Education

Level 3

  • Students can examine the characteristics of major local land features.

  • Students can describe how major natural features of the local landscape have formed and changed over time.

  • Investigate the features of the Earth’s major water reserves and link these features to the water cycle.


Level 4

  • Students can use models, evidence from observations, and research to describe the geological history of the local area.

  • Social Sciences: How the ideas and actions of people in the past changes the lives of others eg. Individuals and groups who have worked to preserve the environment.


  • Social Sciences: How places reflect past interactions of people with the environment eg. Sites that are important to Māori.


  • Mathematics and Statistics (Geometry and Measurement): Specify locations in the local environment, using bearings or grid references.
