Integration ideas are from the Ministry of Education

Level 1

  • Grouping everyday materials on the basis of simple physical properties.

  • Be able to list the characteristics of materials in terms of physical properties, such as smell, feel, and appearance.


Level 2

  • Grouping familiar objects, using observable physical properties.

  • Investigating and communicating differences in the properties of similar types of materials.

  • Be able to classify common substances according to whether they are soluble or insoluble in specified liquids.

  • Be able to plan and carry out an experiment to test the solubility of various kitchen substances.

  • The Arts (Music - Sound Arts): Find different ways of making sounds with sound sources from the environment.


  • The Arts (Visual Arts): Use paper, card, and materials from Papatūānuku to make structures.


  • The Arts (Visual Arts): Talk about objects and images found in their own environment
